Creating a Home Space around your Home based business
Working from home can be an all hour all time and all space consuming.
Something I disliked about running my business from my home space was the Warehouse look.
Today I have my home based business in such a way that when company does come over it doesnt look like I am just working out of my home.
I do have my small business in the dining room area of my home, but it is neat and looks like a cute little shop. I have my living room area and I am adding shelves around the house to hide the paper work and clutter.
Working from home is heart felt for me. My living space is important because this is where I spend all my time. I want to create a happy atmosphere and the clutter did not provide that emotional feeling. In the beginning I was excited about my home based business growth and it took all of my time. The negative was that it looked like I was living in a warehouse.
Boxes were everywhere, shipping supplies, and all my merchandise took my enire 3 bedroom apartment.
While it is not yet how I want it. I will say I have found my creative self falling in love with decorating, organizing, and decluttering my space.
How do you do this?
Start with a small space and make it beautiful. Today decorating is so inexpensive and personal. We can download and print happy quotes get a frame and flip it into something that represents who we are. Taking little spaces and adding your personal touch creates a happy and loving home space.
I just ordered new shelves and storage to hide my paper work that was just growing out of hand.
Sometimes we do have to sit and sift and throw away the clutter.
One of the most imporatant things I have learned growing my home based business is delegating the work.
I use to get overhwlemed with having to run my business, do the dishes, and then clean up the entire mess I created. Today I allow the help and delegate as needed.
My bedroom is my sacrad space, I try to keep the business out of my room. Sometimes I need to go there to get work done because my home maybe busy and loud. Since I also write and create content my room is the perfect place to create. What I did is use a small corner of my room and added a little desk. I do not allow the desk to get cluttered. This is an area to create not work. I use it for writing filiming my youtube videos, taking pictures, organizing and planning. If I find that the desk starts to crowd up with notebooks or paper, I will stop and clean up.
You want to be able to nip things at the core before they get out of hand. This will take time and a lot of effort. In the end it is well worth it.
Since I create art quotes for my art shops, I will also use them as home decor. It is a wonderful way to change up the look and feel of your spaces and great for pictures. This is also a wonderful way to have plenty of merchandise without having them cluttering and gathering dust in a corner.
Target runs great sales on their shelves. They have the nooks and you can even run to the dollar tree for the cubbies. This will have a space for your merchandise and a way to hide the clutter. Also so if you have company they are not seeing everything you are selling. I have clients that sell adult goodies and they tell me they hide the stuff in closets when company comes over. Having the cubbies is the answer to the throwing stuff in jammed closets where they can even break.
Look for shelves that close, with doors, this way you can put away the merchadise especially the clutter.
I do have multiple closets that I use for shipping and for storage. Right now I have a whole area filled with notebooks and paper that I am going through. I also ordered new tall shelves for the books as I read a lot for research and personal hobby.
Giving away, selling things you are not using or donating to schools, and places that will give to charitable non-profits is a wonderful way to clear the clutter and do a good deed.
My books get pricey so sometimes I will re-sell but when it gets out of hand I will put them in my van and donate to the library. THEY LOVE IT!
The point is not to overwhlem yourself.
Take it one space at a time.
